If you are a newcomer to the field, read on to find out more about tissue salts.

Natural remedies and homeopathy

Many people believe in the effects of complimentary or alternative medicine, even when science has not been able to provide unequivocal evidence.

This is because for centuries, or in some cases, millennia, humans have used a range of natural ingredients to try to remedy various ailments.

Many have since been proven to work by modern scientists and have been made into standardised medicines.

Others, meanwhile, are passed down by different cultures and alternative medicine practitioners as successful, based on their personal experiences.

Homeopathy is one type of alternative medicine, which has many fans – including the Royal family.

It is believed to date back to the 18th century, to a Dr Samuel Hahnemann, who promoted the belief that ‘like cures like’: that is to say that, by giving diluted versions of a certain substance, the body could be kick-started into healing itself.

Tissue salts and Dr Schuessler

In the 19th century, Dr. Wilheim Heinrich Schuessler, a medical doctor and physiological chemist, developed tissue salts.

After studying the then new field of biochemistry, Schuessler became interested in the inorganic substances in the body: better known as minerals.

He came up with the idea that highly diluting the minerals could lead to better absorption in the cells, which is why they are sometimes known as homeopathic tissue salts or homeopathic cell salts.

Whether or not you believe in the thinking behind Dr. Schuessler’s idea, it is clear that Dr Schuessler tissue salts have stood the test of time – the brand has been around over a century.
